First off, it should be stated that I LOVE Heirloom Tomatos.

Once you have them, you will not go back to other tomatos. Serious.

In other news, I have an interview for a job as a summer camp instructor. It’s a group interview and I have to go with an activity prepared for other interviewees to participate in. I don’t really know what I’m going to do about that. Got a day to figure it out though.

Registered for my practicums next semester. Stoked. Nervous. Stoked.

I heard the new Ted Leo album and it seriously blows me away with goodness.

Lastly, my new band demo-ed some songs this weekend. We’re recording at an analogue studio in a few weeks and we’re trying to polish our collective chops.

Lastly, the Oilers finally broke their 12 game losing streak, but lost Saturday to Nashville. I believe that puts us at the bottom of the pile. These things happen when you trade your team away.Smitty

Upon searching through the internet one evening (when I should’ve been studying), I came across the blog of Virgil Butler. Virgil was a man who once worked for 10 years in a chicken slaughterhouse, but went on to become an outspoken proponent of animal rights. I guess the awakening of his compassion began when he met his wife, Laura Alexander, and soon afterwards he found himself horrified by the practices on the killing floor. This led him to blow the whistle on Tyson foods (a KFC supplier), leading to charges of animal cruelty being given to many employees. Virgil went vegan and he and his wife started a sanctuary for abused and abandoned chickens at their home in rural Arkanses. Sadly, Virgil died in December, but you can read more information about him online, and I suggest you do as his tale is one of a touching transormation.

In other news, my band played with Propagandhi last weekend. Simply put, they are my rock and roll heroes who have continued to inspire me for over a decade conduct my musical endeavors ethically. The music industry breeds little narcissists at best, but you can also refuse to buy into it which is pretty fulfilling in and of itself. The best music is yet to come, mark my words.

Other than that, Ed is motoring along. I’m registering for my practicums next week so let the butterflies begin.
