I saw the band nomeansno on Wednesday. Simply put, one of the greatest punk rock bands ever. In my opinion, they are doing what I’m sure the minutemen would still be doing had D.Boon not passed away. By that I mean they’re still playing interesting music to stoked punks at age 55. Like a tupperware container full of chili, they get better and better with age. I remember the first time I heard NoMeansNo. It was around ‘94 or ‘95 and skatepunk was huge. I didn’t really get the record my friend lent to me, he didn’t either and it was traded in for credit towards a Bad Religion or SNFU lp. Fast-forward 5 years and I see nomeansno for the first time. They blew my mind but I honestly couldn’t last the whole show. I left before the encore with my mushy brain running down my jaw. But now, I can fully appreciate that band, in all or their Dad-breathed glory and I promised myself after the show that that would be me in 30 years.
